ABOUT CRYSTAL MARTINEZ
For two decades, I have proudly called San Rafael home, where my husband and I are raising our teenage son. My dedication to this community and its future fuels my work every day. As a local public servant with the County of Marin, I have gained valuable experience in collaborating with the community and navigating government systems to achieve positive outcomes. I am adept at problem-solving and committed to transparent communication. My work with the County and the College of Marin is driven by a passion for making a local impact, and I am eager to continue advocating for Marin County's educational needs.
My qualifications are deeply rooted in my extensive community engagement and advocacy. As a former Commissioner and Chair of the Marin Women's Commission and a dedicated volunteer with multiple organizations, I have actively worked to create a more equitable and inclusive community. These experiences have given me valuable insights into the needs and concerns of our diverse population.
As a current College of Marin Trustee, appointed in July 2023, I prioritize student needs in every decision I make. My belief in the transformative power of education is deeply personal. Community college played a pivotal role in my journey, allowing me to balance family and work while furthering my education and laying the foundation for my career. I am proud to hold a B.A. in Business Administration and an M.S. in Business Analytics (Beta, Gamma, Sigma) from Dominican University of California thanks to my community college experience. I am passionate about paying this forward to help future generations thrive through education.
During my tenure on the College of Marin Board, I have actively pursued community college-specific competencies. To ensure I was well-prepared from the outset, I participated in specialized training sessions offered by the Community College League of California. In addition, I participated in the selection process for our current Marin Community College District Superintendent President, Jonathan Eldridge. Beyond board meetings, I frequently visit the Kentfield and Indian Valley campuses to engage with students, faculty, and staff, and I make a concerted effort to engage with both the Student Trustee and the All Student Body President to gain a deeper understanding of the student experience. Participating in commencement as a Trustee was an incredibly moving experience, and it was a true privilege to witness the accomplishments of so many students.
I am dedicated to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed and that Marin County continues to be a place where learning flourishes and paves the way for future success. Together, we can build on nearly a century of College of Marin's legacy, solidifying its place as the top community college in California.
